Light is that which is makes things visible. It is what allows man to experience reality and interpret its beauty with our own eyes, giving us the freedom to live appreciating its magnificence without limiting life to a struggle for survival.
In the Middle Ages light represented the divine, during the Age of Enlightenment it reached its peak becoming a metaphor of the means by which man can “emerge from his self-imposed nonage”, as written by Kant
We believe you are the light of the world. It grows from within and cannot be hidden. Being the light means in times of darkness you offer hope, encouragement, kindness and compassion. In times where others are struggling, you offer a way to help them to regain their glow and to shine. Just like our candles do. To see the good and the beautiful - it is in this that truth is re-established.
At Kandil Istanbul, all our vessels that carry the light, all candles and reed diffusers are made in Turkey to the highest standards. The collections draw inspiration from the ancient art history of Anatolia’s magical heritage and carry the light within them. They are crafted to bring beauty and inspiration into your home, to empower the light within you – wherever your journey is leading you.
OUR STORY:
Born and raised in Istanbul, İlana Halmen was always fascinated by the concept of colour, design and how to combine them in harmony. Beginning as an advertiser and marketer, she worked within the creative process of creating a brand. For her, joy lies in small things, which should be always lived with passion in order not to ever get used to surprise and beauty.
It was after years of professional work as senior manager for big companies, during the pandemic times, she decided to take a step forward and started to design timeless pieces and translate her background in advertising into her own brand, and Kandil Istanbul was born. The first shop, located in the heart of the old town of Istanbul, surrounded with mainly art galleries and antique shops, was opened in 2023.
İlana has 2 children and lives in Istanbul.
